Of course, your wedding, engagement and vow can never be repeated anymore. Well, technically, you can, but it’s such a waste of money and time, don’t you think? You want your photographer to be able to capture and keep all the important parts of your weddings. You are not sure if the price you pay worths the job done.
That is why we have compiled everything a couple should know when hiring photographers into simple tips that you’ll understand in less than 10 minutes.
Brand = skill?
By now you might notice how some are paying half the price others get from a well-reknowned studio or photographer and you wonder what is the real difference between those wedding photography offers. Tell you what, skill should never be defined by pricing.
However, the power of branding is real. That is why a piece of white jersey from a well known internation brand can cost three times as much as from a local brand. Branding is commonly associated with quality-perception, so people tend to think that a certain studio will always produce better that others (which as you might know is not true all the time).
If you want to choose based on branding, it is up to you, because it might just serve you a mental relieve to know that a known, capable, skilled person is handling your photography.
The other factors
Aside from branding, there are several things you need to know and do before making your decision.
If you came across the photographer online and liked what you saw, don’t assume immediately that that’s how your wedding photography is going to look like. Contact the photographer and see if he/she will invite you to the studio or if you are given the opportunity to tour their gallery instead. That way, you will get a better image of your photographer’s skills. This should comes first before anything. If you really want a lifetime album that you can put on your coffee table and brag about, you need to like what he has done before.
Into business or photography
Most people will not do this line of job if they do not have at least a little talent or hobby in it. However, most photographers lost their interest shortly after and is only into it for the money. Of course, everybody needs to make money, but to produce the best shots, you need someone who is into photography and make money from it, not the other way around. You can notice this when talking and conversing, especially in person, with the photographer.
Wedding photography offers include a lot of things, such as:
- Number of photographers
- Number of shots, unlimited or limited
- Hours spent and charges for additional hours, unlimited or limited
- Amount of days or events, wedding, engagement, after party or any other events
- Number of albums and printed photos, for yourself and parents
- Giant printed picture for hanging
- Albums design
- Online gallery
- Copyright to the photos for reproduction, immediately or pending, or not at all
If you are price-conscious…
You might think printing photos are expensive, but they are not exactly so. Even thousand of photos will not cost you more than $1000, so there’s that. They are considering the time spent and editings to do on several of your best pictures. After that, the rest is for the skill you are paying for. I will not dare to say that from many wedding photography offers I’ve encountered, $4500 packages will top off $900 in terms of the quality of the pictures taken. Though you will definitely get less in $900. Which is why I pointed out that studio visit should be something that you do before anything else.
